A WALKING WONDERLAND

The Old Vicarage is an ideal base for exploring the whole of the mid-Wales area, as well as the Marches, Shrewsbury and other destinations.
Llangurig is at the heart of a whole range of fantastic walks, ranging from easy low-level strolls to trails following our key rivers to challenging high level mountain hikes.  Whatever your level of ability and timescale, you'll find something suited to your needs.  And of course The Old Vicarage is an ideal base or stop.

Here are just some ideas for you...

The Wye Valley Walk
This popular walk, which follows the River Wye, runs through Llangurig on its way from (or to) the source on Plynlimon. Llangurig is a recommended overnight stop between two sections of the walk starting at the Bridge…which is just a few hundred metres from The Old Vicarage.  See the links below for partners that we regularly work with who can organise the whole Walk - or just part of it - for you.

 Hafren Forest
Hafren Forest, which lies just north of Llangurig and is easily accessible from the village or from Llanidloes offers several trails and walks.  Foremost amongst these is the first part of the Severn Valley Way, as well as Glyndwr's Way.

Cambrian Mountains and the Elan Valley
The surrounding mountains are amongst the most ancient in Wales, stretching across the heart of Wales, and offer a huge variety of outdoor pursuits, attractions and wildlife – including red kites – the symbol of mid Wales.

We work with several partners who organise self-guided walking breaks and holidays, and these are ideal if you want to enjoy a longer walk or trail.  See the details below

We work closely with a number of partners who organise walking holidays and breaks. Usually your luggage is moved between accommodation while you are walking during the day, and you are dropped back to your starting point at the end of your completed walk.  For more information and details feel free to visit the following links, or contact us direct.

Access to the area is easy and straightforward, with Caersws, Newtown and Llandrindod Wells our nearest railway stations.  Several walking routes start or finish at or near stations too.  To check ticket information and routes we suggest you try

If you are travelling with an electric car, then our nearest charging points are in Llanidloes (Mount Street car park, approximately 5 miles away).  We expect charging points to be installed in Llangurig sometime in 2023, although we can offer overnight charging from a 13amp socket upon request.  This Electric Car Charging Interactive Map is a useful tool to find charging points locally and around the country and is offered by our friends at carwow.
